PRCA / ANSI Standard Public Review
Last modified 10-24-2011
Ropes Course / Zip Lines / Operations / Installation / Canopy Tours Standards
The PRCA Draft Standards have undergone three open public reviews; one unofficial review and two official reviews following the PRCA ANSI approved procedures. Currently the last round of feedback is in subcommittees and will be presented to the Consensus Body when completed. The Consensus Body will then vote on the draft standard and address any Consensus Body member concerns. Once complete, the draft standard may be presented to ANSI and shall become the American National Standard for the Ropes Challenge Course and Canopy Zipline Tour Industries.
Note: The PRCA is the first ANSI Accredited Standards Developer for the Ropes Challenge Course and Canopy Zipline Tour industry. The PRCA is also the first, previously submitted candidate standard to ANSI under review, both via the ANSI P.I.N.S. process and draft standards submitted. Therefore, following ANSI guidelines, no other standard may be accepted until the previously submitted candidate standards (such as the PRCA candidate standard in this case), is formally in the standard query process. This was recently upheld by an ANSI written notice to clarify the process and was issued to all standard developers.
Over the years, the PRCA has worked with other affected associations by offering Joint Standard designation, Consensus Body representation seats, and shared revenue splits. Some of those offers of inclusion have been rejected in written form numerous times or non responses to multiple offers. Other inclusion invitations have been accepted.
Please look for further announcements regarding this process at the upcoming PRCA Annual Conference, January 19 -21, 2012
